Who we are

THIS IS OUR STORY (Hennie & Stef Espag)

After working full-time in ministry since 1985, we founded City on Fire Ministries in April 2019.

This new church plant exists solely to honour God by obeying His voice and following His calling. With the help of the Holy Spirit, we aim to expand His Kingdom on earth.

I (Hennie) saw in a vision while praying that the city was on fire. I saw a little fire and then another and another. We desire to see people and whole families whose hearts are on fire for Jesus until the whole community is one burning fire for God.

This is how the name, City on Fire Ministries, was born.

Our mission at City on Fire Ministries is not to have another traditional Sunday service but to build a ministry that will positively impact believers and unbelievers alike.

Having served in denominational churches from 1985-2019, it has been a great leap of faith to resign and start this ministry. This was not a sudden decision. This dream was conceived a few years earlier.

We left the denominational church in March 2019 after many prophetic dreams and prophecies, as well as the prompting of the Holy Spirit in our hearts.

Without any specific plan in mind, we've decided to wait for God's leading. After two families reached out to us, we decided to start a home fellowship, consisting of ourselves, our kids, three other couples, and a lady.

Several others joined us soon after, and we moved into our first (small) building at 86 Ceramic Curve in August 2019. In the beginning, we held Sunday Fellowship Meetings, Sunday Evening Disciples in Training Classes, and a Fire Cell Group.

Our 'Baby' Ministry was born, but it was still young. Currently, we are laying foundations, casting vision, and training the troops!

It is our heartfelt belief that this is a very strategic and important ministry that will grow into something very powerful. God alone deserves all the glory!

Lock Down and Covid-19 brought a whole new set of challenges. With social distance restrictions, our current building was not large enough to accommodate our congregation, so the whole congregation decided to let it go.

In addition, we are involved with Harvesters Ministries, an organization that focuses on discipleship, evangelism, and church planting.

We completed our training as Harvesters Licensed Trainers in September 2019. The first Hub was established in Ngwelezane (Empangeni) with 27 pastors attending.

We have participated in missions with 4Front Missions in Northern KZN since 2018. We have also begun working in Eswatini (Swaziland) since November 2022.

With a heart for ALL nations, we wish to serve God faithfully in the ministry that He has entrusted to us.
